Michael Worbs, Chairperson of UNESCO Executive Board, considered Fidel Castro as one of the most emblematic men of the 20th century when offering his condolences for the death of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Prensa Latina news agency reported.

This revolutionary leader of Cuba for more than 50 years is one of the most emblematic men of state of the twentieth century, his defense of progressive ideals was a model for many, he said in a letter sent to Cuba's permanent mission to that international body.

When expressing his most sincere condolences to the Government and people of Cuba, he estimated that Fidel Castro will always be remembered as the Commander.

Worbs emphasized the significance of the Cuban leader for the Third World nations and the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries, adding that he was always undoubtedly committed to the development and prosperity of his country.

In this regard, he recalled the words said by Fidel at UNESCO Executive Board during a visit in 1995: "... true social development ... presupposes ... solidarity between men and between nations, and the right of each people to development and to decide their own strategy to achieve it.”
