Two Cubans win in Barcelona´s athletics meeting

Cuba won two gold medals in the City of Barcelona meeting through Rose Mary Almanza (women´s 800 meters) and Yoandys Lescay (men´s 400m).

Cuba won two gold medals in the City of Barcelona meeting through Rose Mary Almanza (women´s 800 meters) and Yoandys Lescay (men´s 400m).

Almanza scored 2: 00.24 minutes and beat Ugandan Halima Nayaki (2: 00.80) while Lescay won with 46.01 seconds to improve his performance a few days ago in Bilbao and was followed South African Ranti Dikgale (46.33).

Other Cuban athletes with highlight in Barcelona were Maikel Massó, runner-up in men´s long jump (7.74 meters), just one centimeter less than the winner, Moroccan Yahya Berrabah, as well as Roberto Skyers, bronze medalist in the men´s 100m (10.51 seconds).

The Cuban participation in the well-known Spanish city was completed with fourth seats of the heptalonist Yorgelis Rodriguez, competing in the 200 meters (24.58 seconds), and Reynier Mena (10.52) in the men´s 100m.

The meeting was also attended by Javier Sotomayor, one of the luxury guests to the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the 1992 Olympic Games.

Sotomayor, champion of that competition in the men´s high jump event and still outdoor (2.45 meters) and indoor (2.43) world record holder, is one of the stars that will offer a series of interviews on the occasion of the anniversary.

Cuba starred in Barcelona 1992 its best performance in Olympics when ranking fifth in the standings thanks to a total amount of 31 medals, including 14 crowns.
