Danzoneando, a 27-minute program broadcast by Radio Taino in two languages, is an original idea of the musician and director of the Ethiel Fernandez Failde orchestra. Headed by Pedro Pablo Cruz, it suggests a contemporary and more attractive vision of the danzon, addressed to all audiences.

This unprecedented program aims at projecting the danzon not as an old and out-of fashion image, since we are not living in the nineteen or twenty centuries, but in the twenty-first, so the vision must be changed, we must go along with our time” - said Failde, who is also the program's host.

Each Saturday, at 1: 30 pm, Danzoneando offers a wide variety of musical themes, as well as some comments related to the Cuba's National Ballet in the voice of the specialist Ana Margarita Gil, including the recordings of some groups that have never been on the national radio networks , “though we consider them of high quality”.

This is the only program heard today from Cuba in Mexico, “it is closely followed by the Mexican fans of the danzon. We have a profile on Facebook and download the themes by r SoundClaun, which allows us to see the comments on the program; this is something we have on our side, something our Cuban culture is gaining; not only Radio Taino, since it is a way of positioning the Danzon, a musical genre which has identified Cuba worldwide”.

Ethiel Failde explains two programs were recorded from Mexico, with voz populi, where the audience tell about their experiences with the danzon. “We have thought of adding a three-minute session with Mexican professor, Félix Reintere, very well-known in his country, with comments on this rhthym, and other interesting issues about the novelties of the danzon in Mexico, thus promoting both, Cuban and Mexican danzon, and creating a link between them”.

With hardly two months of its creation, the program has been inserted on the Cuban and foreign markets ; “some Mexican radio stations, such as IMER, are interested in collaborating with it”, which helps to increase its outreach. The road is still a long one long and there is yet too much to be done; for instance, “we need a webpage and a logo which identifies us”.

The author of this idea, despite being very young, has a lot of projects; one of them consists in bringing Danzoneando to television, conceived as an eight program package of 27 seven minutes each. “We would like to present it next year; our objective is that people know about these groups”.
