The 34th edition of Havana's International Trading Fair (FIHAV) 2016 opened this morning, hoping to success at each business exchange that takes place there.

The 34th edition of Havana's International Trading Fair (FIHAV) 2016 opened this morning, hoping to success at each business exchange that takes place there.

In the opening address, the Minister of Foreign Investment and Economic Collaboration, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, highlighted the confidence and /trust of the foreign business entrepreneurs in this event, as the result of the growing interest of Cuba as a market and the increasing perspectives of the Cuban investors scenario.

He also said that several external problems have led to a decrease in the growth rate of the gross domestic product (GDP) forseen for the first half of 2016. However, he pointed out that “neither the embargo, nor the financial impacts, or weather events affect our big optimism; so we will continue going ahead with our economic model”.

The fact that our companies do not depend on a unique market and show a high efficiency in the international market was highlighted too.

As regards to US-Cuba relationships, Malmierca commented that some companies of the former nation have approached Cuba, disregarding the presence of the blockade. “So far, it's still unfeasible to maintain normal business relations with these companies”, stated the also President of the FIHAV Organizing Committee.

Managerial forums by sectors business rounds, and goods and services presentations, among others, are some of the events to take place in this new edition. Moreover, the First Forum of Investments provokes a high degree of expectation, with meetings among companies, businessmen panels and, as main dish, the presentation of the Business Portfolio, which considers sectors not covered in previous editions.

This 34th edition of FIHAV 2016 gathers representatives from several chambers of commerce, and a figure amounting to 3 500 exhibitors from 73 countries. Since 1983, this Fair has been fostering economic and commercial links of Cuba with the world- Ever year sees more expectations for this trade event among Cuban and foreign companies, because it is the most important trade fair of Cuba and the Caribbean. The expectation rate of this event between Cuban and foreign enterprises grows each year, since our nation is the most important commercial market place of Cuba and the Caribbean.

Spain is, once more, the best represented country. However, Venezuela, China and Russia consolidate as important partners, while Ethiopia, Gabon and Tanzania emerge as new participants .
