Contemporary Dance of Cuba (DCC) announced today that it will premiere on November 10 a work by the Scottish choreographer Fleur Darkin, specially conceived for the company.

The Mella Theater of this capital will host the Equinolux performance, along with the re-staging of Coil, a piece by the young Cuban creator Julio Cesar Iglesias, on November 10, 11 and 12.

Darkin's work is named after the time of year, within the equinox, in which the duration of the day equals that of the night on the entire planet Earth.

The Creative Islands project, of the British Council, fostered this relationship between the artistic director of the Scottish Dance Theater and the mother company of contemporary dance in Cuba.

When Darkin arrived at the DCC headquarters in Havana in March, she saw a rehearsal of the group and felt intimidated, even for a moment she believed that she had to return to the airport because she did not know what she could teach to such powerful dancers.

I looked for something that I have in common with them: courage, to be able to develop an artistic process, confessed the choreographer to Prensa Latina.

In her opinion, this Cuban company has the rare quality of knowing how to combine technical virtuosity with a dance that emanates from the inside of the body, skill in styles from Afro-Cuban to classical ballet, and dancers bring expressiveness, creativity, and inspiration.
