In another sensational game, Santiago de Cuba defeated Industriales 4 to 3 winning the second of a three game series at the Guillermon Moncada Stadium in the eastern city.

Lionard Kindelan, who hit a key homerun in the game, told ACN that he felt pressured because the fans at the stadium were asking for a homerun.

I hit an inside fastball and perceived something great was to happen because there is rivalry between these two teams, I enjoyed winning, the victoria was ours, said Kindelan.

I only listened to my father who told me not to rush, to select a good pitch because I have strength and the homerun comes on its own, said the 8th batter, surrounded by the fans that invaded the field once again to celebrate the victory.

Lionard is the homerun leader for the U23 National Series and is son of Orestes Kindelan who has debuted as Manager of the team and was the best cleanup hitter in the history of Cuban baseball.

The opening pitcher for Industriales Denis Castillo and Angel Marquez for Santiago did not allow a run until the 5th inning when the team from Havana scored a run.

Castillo had Santiago under control, who recovered from an uncontrolled beginning and reached the 8th inning without any problems.

Industriales brought in pitcher Julio Montesinos and began to dominate Lionard Kindelan when with 2 strikes and two outs the Santiago first baseman hit a homerun after the fans chanted “homerun” and tied the game.  Later Santiago went ahead 3 to 1.

With the following pitch after the extra base, Montesinos clearly threw at batter Orrelly Ribeaux and was thrown out of the game.

The umpires called for calm after both teams heated up.

When the victory seemed secured for the Havana team and during their last opportunity Industriales scored twice and tied with Santiago.

Once again, Santiago responded with hits by Edilse Silva and Gelkis Jimenez.

Jose Barbosa who relieved in the 8th inning for Santiago highlighted that the formula to stop the offense of Industriales was to throw many fastballs despite having controlled curves.

I was very tense, but I did my best, I am happy because my team supported me, said the pitcher who is debuting in the National Series.

This is my first victory in the national series after saving a game, said the young pitcher.

Gelkis Jimenez, fifth batter and designated hitter batted a long hit that drove in the winning run.  He said that the team will go for more and everyone needs to trust the strength of the Santiago hitters.

Santiago de Cuba has already won the three game series by winning two and currently has 6 victories and 2 losses.
