President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated Cuban athletes who won gold medals at the 18th Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, on Thursday.
'Yarisley Silva is a champion, Yarisley is #Cuba. Congratulations champion with all admiration and affection,' the president posted on his Twitter account, after the pole vaulter won the regional title in a tight competition in which she jumped 4.75 meters, her best mark this year.
The Cuban president also congratulated Greco-Roman wrestler Mijain Lopez, who won the gold medal in the 130 kg division.
'Mijain Lopez is a Champion of champions, a glory of #Cuba, an honorable standard bearer. All #Cuba follows your performance and enjoyed your victory,' he wrote on Twitter.
In another tweet, Diaz-Canel congratulated the winner of the heptathlon contest, Adriana Rodriguez.
'Adriana Rodriguez won through willpower, determination, dignity and honor. Adriana is also #Cuba. Congratulations champion,' the Cuban president tweeted.
