Preside Díaz-Canel National Act for the start of the school year 2018-2019 (+ Photos)

About two million Cuban children, adolescents and youth are beginning today the 2018 -2019 school year in Cuba, in an educational system that includes more than 10,000 schools and 22 universities.

The President of the Council of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, led the ceremony on Monday in Havana for the beginning of the school year 2018-2019, in which more than 10 thousand teaching centers open for more than two millions of students.

The ceremony took place on the outskirts of the school where the National hero, José Martí, studied between 1865 and 1869, which was inaugurated again as a school. The institute ceased to be a school with the exile of Martí's teacher in 1869. From the date to the present in this place other activities have been developed.

On the initiative of the office of the historian of Havana, the Party and the Government in the capital have restored it and it opens its doors this September 3 with the name of Rafael María de Mendive, name of José Martí's teacher.

The current school receives all grades of primary education and has a capacity for 250 students.

The Minister of Education, Ena Elsa Velázquez, the historian of Havana, Eusebio Leal, the Vietnamese ambassador to the island, Nguyen Trung Thanh, party officials, the government and other guests were present at the event.
