Msc. Petra de la Caridad Silva Cruz, is one of those beings that a few dare to forget. Originally from Holguin, professor and adviser since 1980 at the Higher Art Institute subsidiary in this northeastern province, and a keen defender of language, she faces the classroom everyday, and fully devotes herself to her students.
“I thank life a lot for having me given the possibility of choosing this profession. I've wanted to be a teacher as far back as I can remember, so, as soon as I had the chance, I became a professor. I studied Literature at the university 'till I obtained my bachelor's degree. Then, I began to work at the Department of Education in Holguín, due to the lack of professors at that time; but, once I fulfilled my social service, I went to work the Jose de la Luz y Caballero Pedagogical Institute, also a school in the broad sense. I finished my training there, and my love toward this profession grew a big deal”, she affirmed with a total pride.
Petra is outstanded by her elegance when speaking, as well as by her great dominion when doing something. To keep her alive in our memory is a commitment for the students at the Oscar Lucero Moya university, located in this area. Evoking a professor, no matter the teaching level or age we had at that time, is a debt that can only be paid when the goals of that one who taught us are fulfilled.
Feeling unsatisfied is a man's quality, since we always have something to do, to fulfill, to carry out. But in general terms, I am happy. I have not further trauma for not having had children, as different circumstances contributed to it. But, that mother instinct, that wish of giving and transmitting what I know, make me be satisfied. My students remember me, they love and respect me.
“If there is something which distinguishes me is my willingness to always help the others. I am a strongly follower of Jose Marti's ideals, so, being useful and good encourages us. These are the little things that make me feel happy”.
