Prestigious dance groups will be promoting the Olorum 2017 Festival from April 19 to 23, to be held in this city with more than half a millennium of history.
In the event, Wilmer Ferran, founder of the Folkloric Ballet of Camagüey (BFC), will receive the Olorum 2017 Prize, for becoming one of the most outstanding defenders of rumba, a generic complex of a Cuban folkloric musical style, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Precisely, the BFC will be one of the main participants in the festival that will also include the presence of the National Folkloric Group, a company to which this edition is dedicated, along with the Ballet of Camagüey and to the Cuban Artistic Teaching System.

The president of the Olorum Festival, Reinaldo Echemendia, stated that this type of event is an opportunity to enhance the values of traditional culture and folklore as an expression of Cubanness.

Parks, squares and theaters in Camaguey, a village founded by the Spaniards in 1514, will be the different venues to performances by Bonito Patua, the National School of Dance, Rumbata, the Contemporary Ballet Endedans and Harlequin.

The theoretical event will also include lectures by teachers Silvina Fabars and Manolo Micler, National Dance Award 2015 and director-choreographer the National Folkloric Group, respectively.
