The capitals of Mexico and Cuba agreed a letter of intent for touristic promotion with an eye on mufti-destination travels, authorities reported today.

Participants in the 26th Pan-American Congress of Schools of Hospitality, Catering and Tourism (CONPEHT, October 24 to 28) were witnessed of the signing of a legal document to foster Mexico City and Havana.

Xonia Beltran, delegate from the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) in Havana, and her Mexican peer, Miguel Torruco, signed the document.

The aim is to seek synergies towards strengthening the development of the travel industry and benefit both economies, they said.

This signing is a starting point to build alliances that allow travelers from distant countries such as Japan, China and Russia to visit those capitals, which have elements in common in terms of history, heritage and culture, Beltran stated.

That act was held at the Conference Center in this city in the presence of MINTUR Deputy Minister, Luis Miguel Diaz, and Mexico's ambassador to Cuba, Enrique Martinez, and other officials and delegates.

Havana is the island's main destination. It has 11,309 rooms distributed in hotels, villas and houses, 20 percent of the accommodation capacity of the country, adding the private offering.
