Lucia Cuban film showed at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival

Lucia film, considered as a jewel of Cuban cinema, will be showed today at the prestigious 2017 Cannes Film Festival, one of the most important events of its kind in the world.

Lucia film, considered as a jewel of Cuban cinema, will be showed today at the prestigious 2017 Cannes Film Festival, one of the most important events of its kind in the world.

This film, directed by director Humberto Solas, was one of the 20 films chosen for the 2017 Cannes Classics section, dedicated to showing the recovered movies that marked the history of the cinema internationally.

Lucia, produced in 1968, is consists of three episodes of different times in the Cuban history, each starred by a woman named Lucia.

The film marked a milestone in the Cuban film production in the fruitful 1960s, along with Memorias del Subdesarrollo (Memories of Underdevelopment), directed by Tomas Gutierrez Alea, which was showed in the 2016 Cannes Classics section. In the showing, Eslinda Nuñez -one of three main characters of the film and also winner of the National Film Prize in Cuba- will be present, as well as Sergio Benvenuto Solas, Solas´s collaborator, and Ivan Giroud, president of the Havana´s Latin American Film Festival.

On this occasion a selection of 20 films from countries such as Cuba, Hungary, Lebanon, Serbia, United Kingdom, Italy, United States, Israel, Mauritania, Niger and Poland were showed.

The 2017 Cannes Film Festival, which is celebrating its 70th edition, began on May 17 and will end tomorrow with an awaited awards ceremony.
