Our Commander-in-Chief is and will always be one of the main pillars of Cuban culture. His important contributions to the development of a culture with the people and for the people strengthen the achievement that has been reached in this sense in our nation.

“We ask the artist to develop to the maximum his creative effort, we want to create these conditions in the artist, the intellectual; because, if we want to create these conditions for the future, how come we could not create them on today's artists and intellectuals; we are asking to develop these on behalf of culture and on behalf of Arts, in favor of Revolution, because Revolution means just that: more culture and art”, he once said.

The Historical Leader of the Revolution was always to the forefront of projects such as UNEAC -Cuba's National Writers and Artists Association-, the emergence of instructors' schools of art or the own art schools. In this regard, he said: “These will be the national schools of art, which does not mean they will be the only ones or much less, where the young ones with a higher capacity will attend to the scholarship, without costing a cent to their family, having the ideal conditions to develop themselves and their spirit, the best conditions to develop themselves; that is, education, housing, food, general culture.”

His legacy to this generation consists in a cultured and well trained country, defender of its liberty to the last effort: “the upcoming generation will be better than us, but we would be the ones who made this generation better, we would be the forgers of that future generation, because this has all been a work of all us; we are going to fight hard against ignorance, and, for this, we are going to test our weapons”, he sentenced.

Thanks Fidel, for your legacy; thanks Comandante, for your presence.
Gracias Fidel, says once more our Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso, while she recognizes in the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution one of the strongest pillars of Cuban culture. When she speaks of the Comandante she does it with dignity and respect; when she refers to his unconditional support over the years, she does it with affection, like someone who reminds a friend. “He is simply a person who loves his Homeland and loves Cubans and he deeply defends them. He defends them with his life, what else can we ask from him”?

He was who, since the revolutionary triumph, offered to the Prima Ballerina his support to reorganize the company, create schools, centers where the new talents would boost the future of Ballet in the Caribbean Archipelago. “Every honest Cuban, being Cuban, imagines this, already knows that Fidel had to fight for the National Ballet of Cuba and convince everyone around him. I asked him to help us and he immediately listened to us”.

The People's Comandante was also an Art visionary. His sensitivity toward this manifestation allowed him to see that ballet would be the silk hand that would wake up the sleeping genius in the bottom of the people's soul.

For Fidel, ballet was as genuine and important in Cuba as any proposal of the popular culture. His unbiased vision toward this artistic manifestation is fondly remembered by the excellent dancer: “This Caribbean Archipelago, surrounded by the sea, in the middle of such a big ocean, and lifting the head as head of the world culture, that is a big responsibility for which we all fight, and the Commander-in-Chief was immediately first-rank, took the command, there is no way Cuba thanks the Comandante for the culture of dance, ballet, especially, classical ballet”.

As the most faithful admirer, the Comandante was always present in each important moment for the Company... “The technique of ballet…, he wanted to learn all, all, all, all. As usual, Fidel is already famous, when he likes something; he needs to know it all”.

The National Ballet of Cuba is today one of the most prestigious and renown Cuban dance companies in Cuba and abroad, a result of the big effort of Alicia Alonso and the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution.
