Esteban Lazo, President of the National Assembly of the People''s Power of Cuba, called for strengthened parliamentarian ties with Chile while welcoming President of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies Fidel Espinoza.

At the Capitolio, headquarters of the Cuban Parliament, Lazo said that Chilean parliamentarians expressed their willingness to strengthen ties in that field.

Lazo gave details to the visiting delegation about the first round of the 2017-2108 general elections held last week, as well as the features of the Cuban political system.

In turn, Espinoza also called for strengthening ties, while highlighting Cuba's contribution in the region in different areas.

Cuba was home for many Chileans in the most difficult times of the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990), said Espinoza.

Espinoza also referred to the ongoing battle for a student reform in Chile, which is attacked by the right-wing that supports a profitable approach in education and controls all the media.

Espinoza said that after the first round of presidential elections in Chile, the left wing forces have the challenge of achieving unity.

In that regard, he referred to the danger that the return of the right-wing represents to Chile.

The Chilean delegation is made up of parliamentarians from the Socialist Party, the Communist Party, and the Democracy Party, which are part of the ruling coalition in Chile.
