The voice of Cuban singer Omara Portuondo, accompanied by Chucho Valdés on the piano, defends today the jazz sonorities in the theme Danza Ñáñiga that promotes the celebration of the World Day of that genre.

Cuba was host country to celebrate the date (April 30) and that song, tribute to African roots, was selected as the sound image of the international commemoration.

The theme is a version made by Chucho Valdés to the piece of the same title created by one of the most prestigious local composers: Ernesto Lecuona (1895-1963).

According to Unesco regional director Katherine Muller, Valdés and the U.S. keyboardist and composer Herbie Hancock will lead the sixth edition of the International Jazz Day on April 30.

The Great Theater of Havana Alicia Alonso will host that day a great concert that will be transmitted by satellite.
