Cuban men loses to India in Olympiad, women beat Colombia

Cuban teams, of either sex, will seek winning today in their respective matches, to try climbing in the standings of the World Chess Olympiad, based in the Azeri capital of Baku.

The men´s squad, which ranks 16th with six points after losing 1.5-2.5 on Monday to India, will face in the fifth round Canada (25th), in a contest led by China, Azerbaijan 1, Netherlands, India, Belarus and Ukraine, in that order, all with eight units.

According to the official website of the event, in their latest presentation, the Caribbean Leinier Dominguez, Lazaro Bruzon and Isan Ortiz they drew their games against Pentala Harikrishna, Baskaran Adhiban and Sethuraman Panayappan Sethuraman, respectively.

The only loss suffered by the Cuban side went to Yuniesky Quesada, who was beaten by Santosh Gujrathi Vidit.

Cuban women´s team, which defeated 2.5-1.5 Colombia in the fourth round and appears 23rd with six points, will face Poland, 19th with equal amount of points, in an event commanded by Ukraine, Serbia, Russia and Kazakhstan, all with eight units, in that order.

Yaniet Marrero was the most outstanding player for Cuba when facing Colombia when reaching the only victory of her team over Beatriz Franco, while her teammates Maritza Arribas, Oleiny Linares and Yuleisy Hernandez signed peace with Paula Rodriguez, Ingris Rivera and Melissa Castrillón, respectively.
