Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez welcomed here today Mexico''s Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray, who is making a working visit to the island.

During a meeting at the headquarter of the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Havana, both officials called for strengthening bilateral ties in force for 115 years.

We will continue working to strengthen the relationship and thus benefit our peoples, said the Mexican foreign minister.

Videgaray, who visited Cuba during the Council of Ministers of the Association of Caribbean States held in March this year, highlighted the historical connections between the two countries.

In another time, he said that the objective is to develop academic, cultural and commercial ties and exemplified that 135,000 Mexican tourists visited Cuba.

In this regard, Rodriguez meant that Mexico is the third trading partner of the island in the region of the Americas and the sixth in the world.

He called for strengthening these links in other areas, while calling the relationship 'special.'

The Cuban chancellor thanked the Mexican position in support of peace and security in the world, and the Cuban cause against the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States.

The Mexican delegation is also composed of the head of the National Bank of Foreign Trade, Francisco González; The Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Foreign Ministry, Socorro Flores; And the head of the Mexican Agency for International Cooperation for Development, Agustín García.

Data from the Mexican Foreign Ministry placed bilateral trade last year at US $ 334 million.
