Cuban and Russian universities have today strengthened joint projects on Higher Education and reviewed their bilateral cooperation during the 3rd Meeting of Rectors held at a hotel in the capital.
The Russian government's offering of 100 annual scholarships, scientific and technical cooperation, the establishment of honorary departments and exchanges of specialists are an example of the bilateral links, the Cuban Minister of Higher Education Jose Saborido stated.
He also added that the Russian Language Department of the Alexander Pushkin State Institute in Moscow was opened, which will facilitate the Russian language teaching and culture to primary-level Cuban students.
There are ideal conditions to reach higher educational levels from a mutually advantageous cooperation and to draw up ways for its systematic progress, Saborido said in the meeting attended by rectors of the University of Havana (UH), the University of Computer Science and the Higher Institute of Relations International, among others.
Jose Saborido recalled to the representatives of Russian institutions such as the State University of the Pacific and the Federal of Kazan, that in 1993 Cuba signed an Intergovernmental Agreement with the former Soviet Union which allowed to carry out some cooperation meetings every three years.
On the other hand, Victor Sadovnichi, president of the Russian Council of Rectors, recalled that the bilateral exchange with Cuba dates back to the 1960 and remarked Fidel Castro´s official visit to the M.V. Lomonosov State University of Moscow where he exchanged ideas with Russian students on Cuba-Russia bilateral relations.
