President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez reiterated the importance of tourism to the country’s development, as the sector that contributes the most income to the economy, during a Council of Ministers meeting devoted to the issue.

He described the progress made since the 1990s as impressive, recalling that investment in tourism was envisioned precisely to make the sector the economy’s “locomotive,” a process that continues and needs attention.

While highlighting the fact that Cuba is appreciated around the world as a tourist destination for the comfort of its hotels, beautiful beaches, and its security, Díaz-Canel insisted on prioritizing efforts to supply the industry with domestically produced products, to lower costs and promote development of other sectors.
