Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel finished on Thursday a State visit to Guantánamo province, eastern Cuba, where he toured centers of economic, and social interests.

'In #Guantánamo, that still preserves the footprints of Marti climbing its hills and #Fidel following his footsteps, we are touching the soul of #Cuba and the hands that hold it #SomosCuba #SomosContinuidad', wrote the president Diaz-Canel in his Twitter account @DiazCanelB.

The Head of State began a visit to that province where he talked to residents from Baracoa municipality, shared criteria with them and became acquainted about their concerns. 'Sharing criteria, concerns, aspirations and hope with #Baracoa residents. Revolutionary people, humble, hard-working, decent and kind people. Ready to talk and share #SomosCuba #Somos continuidad,' he emphasized.

On the eve, Diaz-Canel assessed economic and social programs in Guantanamo and in Baracoa municipality he met with local authorities and workers from the chocolate factory.

He also checked on the new bridge being built over the Toa River with the help of Venezuelan construction workers after the viaduct collapsed in October 2016 due to the impact of Hurricane Matthew.

Diaz-Canel went as far as Maisí, the island's eastern most tip, where he visited a multi-grade school and talked residents who benefited from the Petrocasas project, a solution to the damages caused by Matthew on houses of that municipality.

In Guantánamo city, the provincial capital, he exchanged with officials and staff of socio-economic institutions, among them Doctor Agosthino Neto General Teaching Hospital and the Jose Maceo Grajales Vocational Complex.

Since he took office in April 2018, the President has visited most of the provinces, among them Pinar del Rio, Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Ciego de Avila, Holguin and Santiago de Cuba.
