The Cuban delegation that attended the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 will receive today the Olympic Button of the International Olympic Committee at the Morro-Cabaña complex in Havana.

The sporting representation of the Caribbean island ranked 18 in the general classification of the Brazilian event, with eight medals (four gold, two silver and four bronze).

Three-time Olympic gold medalist, Greco-Roman wrestler Mijain Lopez (130 kg), a flag-bearer of the Cuban delegation to Rio 2016, led the Golden Quintet of the Caribbean island, along with classic fighter Ismael Borrero (59 kg) and boxers Julio Cesar La Cruz (81 kg), Robeisy Ramirez (56 kg) and Arlen Lopez (75 kg).

Judo player Idalis Ortiz (+78 kg) and Greek gladiator Yasmany Lugo (98 kg) were Cuba's Olympic sub-champions, while the bronzed medal quartet were boxers Joahnys Argilagos (49 kg), Erislandy Savon (91 kg) and Lazaro Alvarez (60 kg), and discus thrower Denia Caballero.

Beach volleyball duo Nivaldo Diaz and Sergio Gonzalez, fifth Olympic place, as well as gymnast Manrique Larduet, fifth and sixth place in parallel bars and fixed bar, respectively among other memorable performances of the Cuban athletes in Rio 2016, also obtained outstanding results.
