Cuban Vice Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina acknowledged Tuesday the need to strengthen Latin America''s integration mechanisms in the face of Organization of American States (OAS) activism against progressive governments in the region.

During the International Journalism Forum for the 60th anniversary of Operation Truth, which concludes this Tuesday in Havana, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs indicated the importance of working in this direction in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which defends unity in diversity.

Medina explained that the OAS, as it did 60 years ago against Cuba, continues to be the US mechanism for condemning and attempting to overthrow processes and governments focused on human welfare, such as Venezuela and Nicaragua.

He also referred to the growing US aggressiveness in trying to preserve unipolar domination with the reactivation of the Monroe Doctrine, characterized by its imperialist essence.

He also spoke of the outbreak of unconventional wars, as well as politically motivated legal actions and discredit campaigns against social organizations and leftist leaders.

The diplomat argued that to confront this strategy, it is also essential to maintain the continuity of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Agreement.

The Foreign Affairs Vice Minister affirmed that the Latin American left's articulation in scenarios such as the Sao Paulo Forum is key to achieve this.

He also highlighted the urgent need to defend the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, signed in 2014 in Havana at the Second CELAC Summit, which defends the region's stability.
