Deborah Rutter, director of the renowned John F. Kennedy Center in the United States said that Cuba is a cultural power, while announcing a festival dedicated to Cuba from May 8th to 20th.

With the performance of some of the best artists from Cuba, as well as Cuban-US artists, the event is called Arts from Cuba and includes more than 50 activities during two weeks, covering the wide range and vitality of the Cuban culture, said the John F. Kennedy Center, located in this capital city.

The music will open the event with the performance on the first day of singer Omara Portuondo, 'Diva of Buena Vista Social Club', as well as pianist Rolando Luna, the Liceo Orchestra of Havana, composer Aldo Lopez-Gavilan and the Miguel Failde orchestra.

The event also includes the performance of the Van Van orchestra, described as the most famous Cuban group, Yosvany Terry and his Afro-Cuban Quintet (New York) and singer Aymee Nuviola (Miami), amid other figures.

The cultural center said that the event will represent the return to Washington DC of prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso and the National Ballet of Cuba, in a program that will commemorate the 40th anniversary of a historic tour throughout the United States, which began precisely at the Kennedy Center.

Other artistic expressions as theater will be represented by the group El Publico and Argos Teatro, while visual arts and design will include the exhibition of works by Manuel Mendive, Roberto Fabelo, Jose Parla (New York) and costume designer Celia Ledon.

Film industry will have the screening of six acclaimed films in tribute to the 40 years of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema.

Along with the American Museum of Natural History, the festival will include a selection of 'Cuba!', the multimedia installation that portrays the rich biodiversity and cultural history of Cuba.
