Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez, reaffirmed today Latin American and Caribbean right to their independence, sovereign equality and control over its resources while denouncing the US neo-liberal policies.

'In 2019 our America will face the imperialist attempt to apply the Monroe doctrine and neoliberal policies against our nations', the FM asserted in a video published in its Twitter account.

Rodriguez referred in that way to the doctrine announced by the fifth US president, James Monroe, that set a policy to take control of Latin American countries.

'America for Americans', was the proposal synthesized in 1823 by Monroe and his Secretary of State, John Quincy Adams to take Europe's colonialist powers away from the area and thus justify Washington's claims over the rest of the continent.

Likewise, the Cuban Foreign Minister stressed, the region will defend the principles of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, in particular our right to independence, sovereign equality and control of our resources.

The head of Cuban diplomacy highlighted the holding of several important meetings for the region next year.

Among them he cited the Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, and another between that forum and the European Union, both in Bolivia.

We will also have the ministerial meeting of the Caribbean Commonwealth with Cuba, while the Bolivarian Alliance of the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Treaty 'will continue in the struggle in defense of the legitimate interests of our peoples,' he stressed.
