Cuba analyzes the offers of 28 foreign companies that seek to invest in the integrated management project of solid urban waste produced in the country, in order to reduce negative impacts on environment and human health.

Orlando López, specialist of the Industrial Policy Board, attached to the Ministry of Industries, told the Cuban News Agency that these requests mostly come from Europe and Canada.

He explained they are evaluating the best technologies, specifically those related to the handling types of waste; as well as the most efficient possibilities to generate electricity from the gases emanated by the residue.

This, and much more was discussed at the workshop Urban Waste: Handling and Recycling, organized by the Antonio Núñez Jiménez Nature and Man Foundation, attended by representatives of the Embassies of Sweeden and Norway in Cuba, and specialists from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.

The Integrated Management System of Urban Waste was submitted, for the first time, at the previous edition of the Havana's International Fair FIHAV 2015, comprising classification, collection, treatment, recycling and energy recovery to produce electricity; as well as production of organic fertilizers.

This time the project is conceived as a joint-venture between a foreign company and the Association of Raw Materials Recovery Companies.

As announced during FIHAV 2015, this process will start in Havana, a province with more waste and problems for its recovery.

Other topics were discussed during this event, such as those linked to Cuba's public policies in terms of urban waste recycling, local experiences in waste handling, and international experiences in this field.
