The opening of the Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski Havana marks a new stage in Cuba''s tourism development, highlighted the minister of the industry (MINTUR), Manuel Marrero.

We are convinced of the success of the installation, the first in a series of high luxury that will attract customers willing to pay a higher price, said Marrero, quoted by the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

The inauguration corresponds with the intention of expanding the number of rooms in the cities, given a growing demand above the offer, because to date the efforts were concentrated in spas and in the area of the keys, Marrero explained.

He also pointed out that hotels are being built in heritage sites such as Viñales, Santa Clara, Trinidad, Cienfuegos, Santiago de Cuba, Baracoa, Holguin, Gibara and in Havana.

The head of the MINTUR praised the prestige of the Swiss company Kempinski, which with the management of the 'Manzana' - from a management contract with the Cuban tourism group Gaviota - resumed its presence in the Americas, notes the ACN report.

Marrero also highlighted the existence in the Caribbean nation of products for all types of segments, depending on the category of the traveler and their tastes.

The Gran Hotel Manzoni Kempinski Havana, officially inaugurated this Wednesday, opened its doors to the first guests since 22 May.

It is identified as the first luxury tourist facility five stars plus of Cuba, and has 246 rooms.

Located in the area with the highest patrimonial value of the capital, the six-storey building is truly a beauty, with many kindnesses, as opportunely stated spokesmen belonging to the Basic Investments Unit of Almest, belonging to the Gaviota Group.

The ground floor maintains sales areas of the Caribbean and CIMEX Business Group, with 16 stores destined for products of recognized brands such as Gucci, Mango and Lacoste, or the Nikon, Canon and Leica brands, to cite only these examples.

The second floor has 40 rooms, 10 of which are doubles, and public areas that include a breakfast restaurant and a specialty restaurant.

The hotel has a bar overlooking the Floridita, one of the seven most famous establishments in the world, a restaurant frequented by the American writer Ernest Hemingway.

Levels three, four and five are intended for dormitories, and in the sixth there is a swimming pool, a bar, cafeteria, four business rooms and a panoramic restaurant with capacity for 104 clients.

The last floor of the Manzana also has a gymnasium from which you can see Old Havana.
