Cuba: 2017 Among the Hottest Years since 1951

The year 2017 was the 12th hottest year in Cuba since 1951, when it ended with an average national temperature of 0.53 degrees Celsius above the historical average of 25.49 degrees, the Granma daily highlighted today.

The year 2017 was the 12th hottest year in Cuba since 1951, when it ended with an average national temperature of 0.53 degrees Celsius above the historical average of 25.49 degrees, the Granma daily highlighted today.

According to the report, the weather Center of the Meteorology Institute indicated in its most recent monitoring bulletin that the stage was characterized by warm anomalies in most months, mainly in January and February, and during the June-September period.

The suffocation was felt with greater severity -specifically- throughout June, July and August, which had average temperature ​​higher than 28 degrees.

Also, added the note, those months presented the highest number of days under conditions of intense heat.

According to the information, the year 2015 remains the 'hottest' registered on the island in the last 65 years with an average annual temperature higher than 1.06 degrees to normal value, followed by 1998.

The absolute national record of heat in Cuba is 38.8 degrees, established in Jucarito, province of Granma, on April 17, 1999.

Concerning the behavior of the climate in the world, the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), implemented by the European Meteorological Center, reported yesterday that 2017 turned out to be the warmest year registered without the influence of El Niño.

This represents approximately 0.1 degrees Celsius cooler than the hottest year recorded, 2016, and one tenth more hot than the previous warmer year, 2015.
