Cuba, Vietnam Seek Closer Ties with Nguyen Phu Trong Visit

The general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (PCV), Nguyen Phu Trong, arrived today in Cuba with the purpose of strengthening political, economic and cooperation relations between both countries.
The Vietnamese leader was received at the Jose Marti International Airport, in this capital, by the president of Parliament and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Esteban Lazo; the head of the Department of International Relations of the Central Committee of the PCC, Jose Ramon Balaguer, and the vice foreign minister Rogelio Sierra.
Nguyen Phu Trong will carry out an intense agenda during his three-day official visit, which includes talks with high-level host authorities and tributes to the national heroes of Cuba and Vietnam, Jose Marti and Ho Chi Minh, respectively.
Likewise, the signing of agreements is planned, the implementation of a business forum and a youth meeting.
The general secretary of the PCV will award tomorrow the Cuban President, Raul Castro, with the Golden Star Order, the highest distinction of the Asian nation.
Havana and Hanoi established diplomatic relations in December 1960, links that both governments describe as excellent and framed in the common goal of promoting socialism and sustainable development.
