Cuba and Panama authorities agreed here on the existing potential to strengthen their economic and commercial relations.
We will continue to strengthen our cultural, political, economic and social relations as brother peoples, expressed on the eve the Panamanian president, Juan Carlos Varela, during the opening of the Pavilion of his country at the 36 Edition of the International Fair of Havana (FIHAV 2018) that runs until Friday.
Along with the Cuban minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, the head of government verified the attendance of Panamanian companies to the largest commercial exchange of the island in pursuit of exchange betwqeen the two nations.
In reference to Fihav, he mentioned that it is one of the most important fairs in Latin America and the Caribbean and that Panamanian firms from different sectors of the economy participate in it.
According to him, the bilateral relationship between both countries is strengthened every day and the bonds of friendship are historic.
In turn, Malmierca emphasized that the economic and commercial relationship between both countries is going very well and that it has the potential to continue developing.
After the opening ceremony, the Bilateral Business Committee was created with the signing of an agreement between the Chambers of Commerce of the two countries.
In relation to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than 55 years, Varela told the media that his country will always be supporting the island in its fight against this siege.
All my interventions at the United Nations have always been calling for respect for Cuba and for the lifting of the blockade, he said.
I have not only said it publicly, I say it in private every time I have the opportunity to meet with any authority of the government of the United States: I have shared it with its president, with senators, he expressed.
He also referred to the presidential decree issued last week, through which his government made more flexible the entry of Cuban citizens to Panama with the acquisition of a tourist card, for those traveling for purchases or visits.
In this regard, he commented that there is 'total communication' between the governments to ensure that the decree fulfills its purpose: 'to promote tourism and exchange between both countries.'
