The first stage of the Cuban electoral process continues in those places where conditions have been created after the passing of Hurricane Irma, the National Electoral Commission (CNE) reported today.

The CNE indicated that the initial program of the nomination assemblies of candidates for delegates to the municipal assemblies of the People's Power was readjusted on time, according to information published in Granma newspaper.

Since September 6 and to date, several of these meetings were suspended and were rescheduled for the next few days, said the Cuban electoral body.

However, the CNE said that in several territories these assemblies proceeded as planned and at this time 'the strategy for its continuity have been successfully drawn up.'

The CNE called for ensuring the quality of the process 'in full compliance with the Constitution of the Republic and Law No. 72, Electoral Law' and taking into account the significance of the nomination assemblies.

The nomination assemblies of candidates for delegates to the organs of Popular Power began last September 4 and will conclude on the 30th.
