Granma's Sorrels baseball team took a short break from their intense training sessions this Monday, January 30, to receive the national flag which will fly in the upcoming Caribbean Baseball Series, taking place February 1-7 in the Mexican city of Culiacán.
Star player, Alfredo Despaigne received the national flag from Olga Lidia Tapia Iglesias, a member of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee National Secretariat; while on behalf of their teammates Guillermo Avilés and Roel Santos laid a floral wreath before the eternal flame to the Heroes of the New Homeland in the Granma Memorial Center, attached to the capital's Museum of the Revolution.
Meanwhile, Industriales receiver Frank Camilo Morejón swore the oath in the name of the players. Later, Antonio Becali Garrido, President of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), noted that the delegation from Granma, set to represent the entire country in the Caribbean Series, will embody millions of compatriots, which is why they must demonstrate total commitment and team work, elements which have characterized the squad since it won the 56th National Baseball Series this past January 22.
