Cuba on Thursday received full support and solidarity from the South African ruling party ANC, and the condemnation of the tightening of the United States blockade, imposed against the island for almost 60 years.

African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Ace Magashule expressed this position to First Deputy Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina, during a meeting held at the organization's headquarters in Johannesburg, known as Luthuli House.

The Cuban official arrived in South Africa on Thursday to begin a tour of African nations that will also include Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Rwanda. He will lead on Friday his country's delegation to the 15th meeting of the Joint Consultative Mechanism, to be led by South African Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Alvin Botes.

During the meeting with Magashule, the Cuban diplomat reportedly outlined the current panorama in the Latin American region and his country, and analyzed the recent measures taken by the Trump administration that intensify the sanctions against the island with the full application of the Helms Burton Act.

Subsequently, Medina and his accompanying delegation attended an event organized by the Association of Friendship with Cuba on occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, signed on May 11, 1994, by the then Presidents Nelson Mandela and Fidel Castro. The activity was held at Pretoria Freedom Park, where the names of 2,289 Cubans are recorded who lost their lives in the wars for the liberation of African countries, among them South Africa.
